Could the successor to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution actually be a coupe?
Now that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution as we know it is dead, the Japanese automaker is reportedly considering a 2+2 coupe body style for the sports sedan’s successor. That means the successor to the Evo could be more 3000GT than Lancer, and such a vehicle would actually act as a spiritual successor to both models.

While the vehicle is still under consideration, Mitsubishi has an interest and willingness to bring a new sports car to market, except it’ll sport a hybrid powertrain. The company has announced that it’ll be focusing on hybrids for the future, and nowadays, it’s not entirely a shock to see a sports car getting a boost in performance with an electrified powertrain.
A hybrid Evo coupe would be based on the next Mitsubishi ASX crossover platform, according to Lance Bradley who is the Manager Director for Mitsubishi Motors UK. “It’s possible it could be a high performance coupe – smaller rather than bigger than current Evo,” said Bradley. “Therefore a 2+2 coupe would be a sensible body choice.”
