Fiat is planning a new large pickup to its lineup thanks to a partnership with Mitsubishi.
According to Automotive News, the Japanese automaker will supply Fiat with a variant of its L200 pickup, and it will be Fiat’s first body-on-frame pickup that will be sold by its commercial vehicle division, Fiat Professional. It is expected that the new pickup will be available starting in 2016. Expanding Fiat Professional’s lineup is a pivotal part of Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne’s plan to make the automaker profitable in Europe.

Don’t expect the Fiat pickup to be sold in the U.S., as the focus will be on the European and Latin American markets. Currently, the it sells the Strada front-wheel drive unibody compact pickup built in Brazil and sold in Europe and Latin America. Last year, the Strada was Fiat Professional’s top seller with a volume of 134,000 units.
It is expected that the Mitsubishi-based pickup will be larger than the Strada and will be offered in rear- and all-wheel drive configurations.
Previously, Mitsubishi announced that the next-generation L200 will debut this fall.
