The new Mitsubishi Mirage will finally be launching in America in September 2013, and will be equipped with a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder powerplant.
The Mirage is joining the Ford Fiesta with its three-cylinder offering, and MINI is also rumored to join in on the three-banger fun in the near future. But Mitsubishi will be the third automaker offering a three-cylinder engine once the Mirage hits dealerships in September on American soil with just 79 hp.

And once the Mirage does hit dealerships in America, it’ll be the second-least-powerful car available, slightly ahead of the 70-hp Smart. The Ford Fiesta however benefits from a turbocharger so its three-cylinder sports 123 hp.
Of course the days of Mitsubishi flaunting high-horsepower Evolution all-wheel drive cars are long gone. The Mirage at its best will be a mediocre offering for the American market and will probably have a tough time competing with other low-budget, small vehicles in the market.
