Mitsubishi has slowly been disappearing from the U.S. marketplace and in an effort to stop the downward trend, the brand is considering introducing a new SUV that will fit above the Outlander, and a new mid-size sedan.
“We are looking into a possibility for the [mid-sized sedan] segment, and we may look into maybe a bigger brother to the Outlander,” Masatoshi Hasegawa, executive vice president of corporate planning for Mitsubishi Motors North America said to Automotive News.
These new vehicles aren’t likely to see the light of day before 2015, but in the short term, Mitsubishi is beefing up its marketing campaign in the States. ”We’ll be present every month — no blackouts,” says Hasegawa of the new marketing push, which will include television and internet.

Along with the possible new vehicles, Mitsubishi will introduce a redesigned Outlander compact crossover in 2013, along with a plug-in hybrid version of that same vehicle sometime in 2014. Also coming from the Japanese brand is the Mirage subcompact, which is set to debut this fall.
For 2013, Mitsubishi is targeting 56,000 to 60,000 units.
