Mitsubishi recently revealed that it would be reviving the Evolution nameplate, but people were less than happy about it.
That’s because this isn’t the Lancer or even the sport compact you were looking for. The teaser image accompanying the news previewed a concept called the e-Evolution, all-electric “coupified” crossover, something that couldn’t be further from the cars that made the Evo nameplate so highly regarded in the first place. Not to mention the fact that all-electric crossover “coupes” are generally a vehicle segment that gets a lot of eye rolls from the crowd who used to respect the Evo name. After saying it has revived the Eclipse name for an upcoming crossover, this news made people even more upset.

“Oh man, Mitsubishi just can’t get anything right,” said an AutoGuide.com staff member. Here’s how the rest of the internet reacted to this new “Evo” concept that will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this year.
“Hey, we made some sweet cars in the 90s, lets follow it up with crap in the 2000s and then burn our 90s brands names in the 2010s with marshmallow mobiles.” – Darryll DiPietro via Facebook
“Stop abusing their own nameplates, the Eclipse Cross is stupid enough we don’t need more…” – Sola Hoi via Facebook
The Evo name is the only name that even carries any weight for Mitsubishi. PLEASE DON’T SCREW IT UP.#mitsubishi #evo #legend https://t.co/rLOxAkQL7n
