Every new car comes with a manufacturer warranty. Not all warranties are created equal, however, and some manufacturers offer warranty coverage that is much more comprehensive than others.
A new car manufacturer warranty is split into several parts. The first is the basic coverage, which covers issues such as electrical faults, cosmetic/mechanical defects, and other problems that can affect the proper operation of the vehicle. Coverage lasts for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever occurs first). The other part is for the powertrain (engine and transmission) solely and, for most automakers, covers the first 5 years or 60,000 miles. Other remaining coverage components are for rust and emission with rust coverage covering the first 5 years on average and emission coverage varying depending on applicable federal and state regulations.

The warranty coverage offered by all automakers selling cars in 2018 is vast, but here are eight automakers with the best warranties in the business (in the U.S.).
Which Automakers Have the Best Warranties?
Mitsubishi
This company may seem like it has given up on releasing competitive products, but at least it hits hard with excellent warranty coverage on its entire lineup. Powertrain warranty is 10 years or 100,000 miles, new vehicle limited warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles, and anti-corrosion warranty comes in at 7 years or 100,000 miles. Out of all the automakers, Mitsubishi has the best warranty.
Volkswagen
Volkswagen just introduced a gamechanger of a warranty that comes in at 6 years or 72,000 miles for the limited new vehicle warranty — it also happens to be transferable. That means that should you sell your Volkswagen within the warranty coverage period, all the warranty benefits are automatically transferred to the new owner at no cost to you. This currently applies to just the Atlas and Tiguan because they are only 2018 models available right now, but Volkswagen has said this new warranty should spread to the rest of the 2018 model range eventually. The E-Golf will be the only model left out of this warranty program.
Hyundai
Hyundai follows Mitsubishi’s strategy of offering a very long warranty coverage of 10 years or 100,000 miles for powertrain and 5 years or 60,000 miles for comprehensive new vehicle warranty.
Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, also offers a 10 year or 100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty with free maintenance and a valet service where they pick up your car for scheduled maintenance, give you a replacement, and return your car when the service is done.
Chevrolet
Although Chevrolet’s powertrain and new vehicle warranties come in at 5 years/60,000 miles and 3 years/36,000 miles, respectively, there is the additional benefit of two free maintenance services (free oil change, tire rotations, or DEF tank refills for diesel vehicles) applicable for the first 24,000 miles and applies to all vehicles in the model range.

Audi
Audi has a 4 year or 50,000 mile limited warranty. The first scheduled maintenance is also free and Audis also get 12 years of warranty against corrosion and four years of 24-hour roadside assistance.
As a comparison, BMW vehicles 2017 or newer come with a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty for both powertrain and comprehensive. What sets theirs apart from the competition is the free maintenance services that is built into the warranty and those services are for the full duration of the factory warranty. The warranty is not transferable, however.
Nissan
Although not applicable to all Nissan models, the 5 year or 100,000 mile powertrain and comprehensive warranty coverages applicable to both the Titan pickup truck and NV full-size van are definitely way above the usual industry average of 3 years or 60,000 mile for comprehensive warranty.
