The world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV has made its official debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV features a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder paired with two 60-kWh electric motors for a total range of 547 miles.

The Outlander has an all-electric range of 34 miles and has all-wheel drive capability thanks to the two electric motors – each one drives one axle. In addition, the Outlander can uses its gas engine to power the front wheels, or a combo of gas and electric power.

According to the Japanese automaker, the Outlander PHEV has a better weight distribution of 55-percent front, 45-percent rear and a lower center of gravity compared to the standard Outlander model.

On the outside, the PHEV model is set apart by clear LED taillights while the interior gets a different steering wheel and a shift lever that looks right at home for a hybrid.

Unfortunately the PHEV doesn’t have its eyes set on America any time soon. The automaker will launch it in Japan first before it makes its way to Europe. It has yet to determine what other markets it will launch in.
