Mitsubishi is currently planning a new mid-size sedan for the U.S. market with French automaker Renault.
The vehicle, which will be built by Renault, will be sold under the Mitsubishi brand in the U.S. Though the vehicle is still in negotiations and nothing is definitive, the plan to develop the sedan is part of the duo’s expanded alliance. The news was shared by Mitsubishi Motors North America’s executive vice president Don Swearingen at a dealer meeting.

Since killing the Galant, Mitsubishi has sorely needed a replacement. More importantly, the dealers left feeling optimistic saying that Mitsubishi is planning new products and redesigns to hit the market quickly. Swearingen also told Automotive News that a small sedan based on the new Mirage is under “strong study” for the U.S. market. Other product updates coming Mitsubishi’s way include the addition of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine to the Outlander Sport as well as a new CVT for the 2015 model year update. The 2015 Outlander is expected to arrive later this year.
