Mitsubishi has crushed the record for the fastest EV at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
With Greg Tracy behind the wheel, the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III managed to scale the mountain in 9 minutes and 8 seconds, obliterating the previous record of 9 minutes 46 seconds set by Monster Tajima.
Tracy’s run makes him the second fastest up the hill overall this year, missing Romain Dumas, who ran a gasoline-powered prototype, by just 2.4 seconds. Dumas’ run didn’t come close to Sebastien Loeb’s record setting run from last year though, when the hill was crested in 8 minutes and 13 seconds.

Numerous key improvements were made for the latest version of the MiEV Evolution race car, with power being increased from 563 hp to 603 hp. In addition, a redesigned tube-frame chassis with new structural materials helps reduce weight, while a completely redesigned and wind tunnel-optimized bodywork and front spoiler increases downforce. Lastly, the automaker has redesigned the Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system for improved handling and traction control performance.
