Ahead of the Paris Motor Show, Mitsubishi just revealed a concept preview of what will eventually become a sportier, more premium package offered with its Outlander Plug-In Hybrid SUV.
Mitsubishi’s emaciated product line in North America might have you fooled into thinking it is about to be a dead brand, but in other parts of the world it is already selling the Outlander PHEV with success. It is scheduled to arrive here in late 2015 or early 2016 and when it does, the company might offer a version of the trim package being previewed here.

It gets a re-designed, more aggressive-looking front fascia and wraparound headlights. Of course, the interior is also heavily revised for a more premium appearance. It includes black woodgrain trim with silver accents, a re-designed center console and leather upholstery.
Like current road-going versions of the Outlander PHEV, this car uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine along with two electric motors and a lithium ion battery pack in its powertrain. Solely powered by electricity, it can travel up to 32.5 miles and offers 148 MPGe according to the European test cycle. Expect those numbers to fall when it arrives in North America.
