The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will go on sale this December.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the best-selling PHEV in Europe and is also the world’s first plug-in hybrid crossover and it will be priced from $35,535 including destination. Sporting a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and two high-performance electric motors, the plug-in Outlander is also equipped with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, making it the only plug-in crossover with all-wheel drive in its class.

The entire plug-in hybrid powertrain provides a total system output of 195 horsepower.

Supplying the electricity for the motors is a high-capacity 12-kWh lithium-ion battery that has been developed specifically for the PHEV system, Mitsubishi says. The battery pack has a total voltage of 300 volts and is located in a dust and waterproof encasement beneath the passenger compartment subfloor.

Safety features on the model include blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, automatic high beam, adaptive cruise control system, multi-view camera system, and Wi-Fi EV remote.

“The Outlander PHEV is an all-new driving experience that is unmatched in the market; until now, this type of vehicle has been exclusive to the premium segment,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president and COO, MMNA. “Offering EV technology in a very capable crossover will satisfy a consumer need that’s been missing in the marketplace. The Outlander PHEV offers seating for five passengers and room for their gear, 1500lb towing capability, SUV practicality and a fantastic Super All-Wheel Control system, all wrapped in an environmentally friendly EV system.”
