The 2014 Mitsubishi i-MiEV will be the cheapest electric vehicle available on the market come 2014.

The Japanese automaker has announced that its 2014 model year i-MiEV will see a drastic price cut to $22,995 excluding destination – that’s $6,130 less than the 2012 model year offering. The price cut follows in the footsteps of other automaker’s EVs this year including the Nissan Leaf, which saw a $6,000 price reduction for 2013.

To make it even more attractive, buyers can factor in the Federal tax credit of $7,500, effectively making the net MSRP to $15,495. Then there are those that are in the state of California that could be eligible for incentives up to $2,500 and the i-MiEV could be had as low as $12,995.

It’s worth noting that Mitsubishi is the first to announce pricing on the 2014 model year electric vehicles, so don’t be shocked if Nissan, Chevrolet or even Smart drops their entry-level EVs to stay competitive.

The 2014 Mitsubishi i-MiEV will arrive dealerships next spring and is rated at 112 MPGe and has an estimated 62-mile range.
